HILLEBERG AMBASSADOR: Young, passionate adventurer Will Copestake

Will Copestake is young, passionate about the outdoors, and full of adventure and ambition. He was born and raised in Ullapool, Scotland, and spent his childhood wandering around the magnificent natural playground of Scotland's northwest Highlands. Since then he has walked New Zealand's famous walking routes and walked across Iceland.

Between May 2013 and May 2014, Will kayaked alone around Scotland and climbed all of the Munro mountains - a total of approximately 1,600 kilometers (994 miles) of coastline and 282 mountains above 900m (over 3000ft) peak. “I hope to learn more about my hometown through this trip,” Will said. The 364-day adventure, which he called "a journey on his doorstep," earned him the honor of "Adventurer of the Year" at the 2015 National Adventure Awards, which recognizes the best in England, Wales and Scotland. outstanding adventurer.

His tent: Hilleberg Soulo. “I used the Hilleberg Soulo tent for the entire trip. In the kayak, it was my home at the end of each day. On the mountain, it was both my base and my home on the top. Decided on the Soulo: I had used it during a three-month expedition exploring and hiking across Iceland. I needed a tent that was lightweight but strong enough to withstand wind, rain, snow and any extreme weather conditions. Needed a freestanding design as I often camp on rocky islands or on ice and needed something easy to set up without ground pegs. I've spent over a full year under this green nylon tent so far. Intermittent use. It may be a little dirty, but it's still as solid as when I first bought it."

Will currently lives in Patagonia, Chile, where he works full-time as a kayak guide, so he "can't wait to move into a bigger home," he says. “Allak is the perfect solution to provide more space while remaining lightweight and compact. [Patagonia] is known for its changeable weather and more importantly strong winds; on a recent trip , I experienced wind gusts of 80 mph, and the tent was rock solid all night long—even when we had to get up and strap the kayak down!"
