HILLEBERG AMBASSADOR: POLAR EXPLORATION Pioneering and Environmental Educator Doug Stoup
Doug Stoup (pronounced like stout, but ending in p), he introduced himself with a smile, is an all-around explorer, professional guide, and the founder of Ice Ax Expeditions.
He is the person who has skied to both the North and South Poles the most times in the world, has led ski mountaineering expeditions to conquer Antarctica and Greenland, and has done stand-up paddle rafting in the Amazon. At the same time, he also pioneered positioning beacons for tracking climate change and founded the Ice Ax Foundation's Impact School . This program is designed for high school students and takes them on international field trips to remote locations such as the Brazilian Amazon, Arctic wildlife refuges, Congo, Greenland, the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California, and Antarctica.
Doug is not only an explorer, he has devoted much of his energy to raising public awareness of climate change and the impact of plastic pollution. He is equally passionate about adventure and education: "I love taking people into these extreme environments, I love nature, and I love these unknown frontiers," he says. "I will continue to push the limits of human endurance while raising awareness for charitable and humanitarian organizations."
Although Doug's adventures have taken him all over the world, including the deserts of Africa, the Amazon rainforest, and the mountains of the world, his passion ultimately centered on the far north and south. "I have a deep connection with the polar environment," he said. "For the past 20 years, I have lived in a Hilleberg tent, both as a professional ski mountaineer and as an international polar guide. One of the most important pieces of equipment on an expedition is shelter, especially here on Earth. The most inhospitable places for humans to live. With their extraordinary strength, tunnel-shaped design and spacious vestibule, they are easy to set up in strong winds and combine strength and lightweight, making them a must-have for every polar expedition. .
Doug is committed to continuing to lead explorers to the North and South Poles and developing more innovative and inspiring ways to do so. This year he plans to lead an expedition to the geographic South Pole using a fat tire bike. "I believe that the Hilleberg tent is one of the most important pieces of equipment I own."
