HILLEBERG AMBASSADOR: WORLD'S LEADING SEA KAYAK EXPLORER Freya Hoffmeister
Freya Hoffmeister is one of the world’s greatest sea kayak adventurers (perhaps even the only one).
She recently completed the first stage of "No. 3 - The North Island", the first journey around North America. From March to August 2017, she completed the entire west coastline expedition from Pacific City, Oregon, to Kodiak, Alaska. The feat will be her third circumnavigation expedition. In past trips, including around Iceland, the South Island of New Zealand, Australia, South America and Ireland, she has chosen to use Hilleberg tents, especially the Allak and Staika, and for this North American adventure, she chose the Allak again.
“I prefer the high-quality Swedish-made Hilleberg tents as my first-class base camp on my extreme sea kayaking adventures, literally my ‘Hilleberg Hotel’!” said Freya. "This journey will be divided into two parts, starting in Seattle and ending in New York City, circumnavigating the entire North America. The total distance exceeds 50,000 kilometers, passing through the Northwest Passage, the Panama Canal, the interior of the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulf of California, and even crossing the Ha Durson Bay, expected to take ten years to complete, I chose my favorite Hilleberg Allak tent again.”
In May 2015, she completed "The Second Continent Expedition" (The Second Continent Expedition) and became the first person to successfully circumnavigate South America. The journey began in August 2011 and lasted four years, divided into 24 stages, and completed a journey of 27,000 kilometers (16,000 miles). On this expedition she mainly used the Allak tent, but also used the Staika in harsh conditions. “In the southern tip of South America, which is known for its strong winds, I relied on the rock-steady Hilleberg Staika and once camped in winds exceeding 100 knots.”
Two years ago, she completed the first continental circumnavigation expedition - "The Race Around Australia Expedition". The journey, which took about a year and totaled 15,000 kilometers (9,400 miles), was the only time in the past 30 years that one of the most challenging sea kayaking routes in the world has been completed.
Earlier, in 2007, Freya completed the record challenge of circling Iceland in just 33 days. She then embarked on a challenge to become the first woman to sea kayak around New Zealand's South Island. After 70 days, she successfully completed the feat and set a personal record, while being extremely satisfied with the protection Allak provided.
